Donna Karan Steps Down

After 31 years of managing her own label Donna Karan is stepping down, reports Reddit. In 1984 Ms. Karan started her own label, and since then she has managed, directed and designed for the company until it went public in 1996, but Ms. Karan stayed as the lead designer for the label that proudly bears her name says Ivan Ong. The company was bought by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton in 2000, and is having some shakes up. Patti Cohen, head of public relations who was with Donna Karan International for 30 years has also stepped down. In April Ms. Karan handed the creative control over to Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne.

Business of Fashion reports that Ms. Karan will focus on her Urban Zen label, and she will have more time to keep up with her charitable commitments. Ms. Karan is quoted as saying, “The clock is ticking,” she said. “I have so many commitments and projects that require my full attention at Urban Zen, as well as my time-consuming philanthropic pursuits in healthcare, education, and preservation of culture. There are only so many hours in the day.” One can’t help but wonder what is going on at DKI because they are not replacing Ms. Karan, and they have cancelled all run way shows.
