HERE ARE 5 WAYS TO CELEBRATE GLOBAL RUNNING DAY TODAY

Happy Global Running Day!

Whatever your pace, ability, body size, gender, or sexuality, running is for you. This internationally recognized day is a way to celebrate the sport and spark conversations about how to get even more people involved.

First, a note of caution for U.S. readers in the Northeast and Midwest—the wildfires in Canada have created poor air quality conditions and some groups, like the New York Road Runners, are advising people to consider not running outdoors. Some scheduled outdoor runs and events in the region have been canceled or postponed, so today might be a good day to hit the treadmill.

That said, here are some of the unique ways runners around the world are celebrating today.

12-Hour Boost-a-thon at Finish Line Physical Therapy

At Finish Line Physical Therapy in New York City, staff and clients are celebrating with 12 hours of continuous running on the office’s two antigravity Boost treadmills.

The last time the event was hosted, runners reached around 140 miles, and they’re hoping to beat that record today. Tim Waanders, a physical therapist at Finish Line, said, “I love the idea of this Boost-a-thon as another way to pull the NYC running community together for Global Running Day and offer up our services for runners looking extra recovery time and performance benefits or maybe unable to run outside right now due to injury.”

Virtual Challenges

The official Global Running Day website is offering a free Virtual New York Road Runners Global Running Day 5K. Between June 3 and June 11, you can register online and complete a run or walk at your convenience, then upload your results.

Fleet Feet’s The Big Run 5K

The running store juggernaut is teaming up with the beer brand Michelob ULTRA to offer virtual and in-person 5K events at a plethora of Fleet Feet locations across the U.S. There are fun promotions at some stores—in Boulder, the first 50 participants to arrive will be gifted a Brooks x Fleet Feet pint glass, and a store in Seattle is offering free swag and beer tokens redeemable at local craft breweries.

Run for a Good Cause

Now through June 12, you can sign up for a challenge that Polar and Adidas Running are hosting. For every 10 minutes of movement you log via the Polar app, Adidas will donate one Euro to the Common Goal, a charity dedicated to projects that educate communities on sustainability through sport.

Tracksmith Speed Workouts

Global Running Day or not, Tracksmith regularly hosts runs out of their trackhouses in Boston, London, and New York City, and they’re not ignoring the community-minded spirit behind this day of recognition.

At the NYC Trackhouse, the brand is hosting a special speed session on the track with the option to participate in a fun run with the Girls Gotta Run Foundation, which invests in girls who use running and education to empower themselves and their communities in Ethiopia.
