Getting rid of hemorrhoids most often means surgery. But before considering that option, home remedies can relieve your symptoms and prevent hemorrhoids from enlarging. This includes getting plenty of fiber, staying well hydrated, and avoiding straining when using the bathroom. For relief of itching or discomfort, do Sitz baths and apply over-the-counter topical agents, such as pads infused with witch hazel, or soothing creams that contain lidocaine, hydrocortisone, or phenylephrine.

If hemorrhoids detected early there are non-invasive treatment like dietary supplements with fiber, stool softeners, and ointments are also prescribed to avoid infections. If they get worse and painful, hemorrhoids can be removed surgically.

Surgery to remove hemorrhoids is called hemorrhoidectomy. The doctor makes small cuts around the anus to slice them away. You may get local anesthesia (the area being operated on is numb. And you're awake though relaxed) or general anesthesia (you're put to sleep).
