The Human Rights Battle with Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin

The Frontera fund was founded by two gentlemen namely Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The Frontera Fund’s primary agenda is supporting every other group that helps in fighting for migrant rights. They fund groups all over Arizona.

Lacey and Larkin earned 3.7 million dollars following a lawsuit against the sheriff. The Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio had wrongfully arrested the duo. They got arrested in October 2007, in the middle of the night. This arrest was due to their writing of articles about the sheriff. This arrest was against the Fifth Amendment rights.

They used the 3.7 million dollars that they got in starting the Frontera Fund. The two owned local weekly newspaper that is; ‘The Village Voice’ and ‘Phoenix News.’

They sold out The Village Voice in 2012. The Arizona State University received funding from the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. Immigrants are always a minority group in every country. Their rights get violated all the time because they are few and don’t have the voice to fight for themselves.

In Arizona, most immigrants are put in warehouses and suffering intolerable conditions as they wait for their cases hearing. These immigrants mostly do low-income jobs. They are, therefore, unable to afford a lawyer to help with their cases resulting in more discrimination.

The Frontera Fund is in place for these immigrants. It helps in fighting for their rights and ensure they’re heard. They do this by the help of other groups that they fund to get more immigrants assistance.

There are also other groups similar to the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund that fight for civil, human and migrant rights. These groups include the Amazon Watch. It works to improve the indigenous’ people’s rights. It does this by working together with aboriginal groups and environmental organizations. Their motivation to do this was after they observed the vast growth in projects like oil and gas pipeline. Learn more about Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey:
