DOCTOR LISTS 8 CRUCIAL TESTS FOR ANYONE EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OF THYROID DISEASE

If you have a thyroid condition, it was probably a challenge initially getting it diagnosed. Doctors often tell many who suspect they have an issue that everything is fine. And even if you have received treatment, you might still have the same symptoms you did without medication. It’s incredibly frustrating when you only want to feel like yourself again.

It’s the reason that for over a decade, I flew once a year from Connecticut to California to see a specialist who could pinpoint my condition and treat my very underactive thyroid. Although that may sound extreme, it’s easy to understand for anyone who knows they are not feeling their best.

Thankfully, this doctor’s advice can help you better diagnose your potential condition without flying across the country.

It pays to be your health advocate, especially if you haven't felt like yourself. Thankfully, Dr. Darren Scott (@drdarrenscotthealth) has made it easier for us to get the help we may need, especially if you've been having low thyroid symptoms like weight gain, fatigue, and hair loss. It can be incredibly frustrating if your doctor has already screened you and told you there's no problem to be found. However, it takes running the correct test to make an accurate determination, and those are often not performed.

Eight Thyroid Tests to Order

  1. Free T3. This test measures whether you have enough of the bioavailable thyroid hormone that is turning your cells on. Without this number, it is impossible to determine what is going on accurately.
  2. Total T3. Although this test sounds similar to free T3, it’s not. It shows what T3 hormones are bound to a protein and are unavailable.
  3. Free T4. This test helps determine if you are having problems converting these thyroid hormones, as T4 needs to be converted in the liver and gut to become the usable form of T3.
  4. FTI -Free Thyroxine Index. It can help determine whether the thyroid is hypo or hyperactive.
  5. Reverse T3. He explains that reverse T3 is a hormone created by the liver during the conversion process. Although inactive, it will compete for the same receptor sites as T3, blocking their access. So even if we have enough free T3, it’s unable to reach the cell.
  6. T3 Uptake. This test measures the thyroid-binding globulins, which carry these hormones throughout the body. If we have too much, our thyroid hormone gets bound to it and becomes unavailable. When we don’t have enough, the hormone doesn’t get delivered to the cells.
  7. Thyroid antibodies. Finally, he told us we needed to request a TPO antibody test and a thyroid antiglobulin test. These antibodies help to tell us if we are suffering from Hashimoto’s disease, which he reports is part of the problem for 90% of people with thyroid disease.
  8. TSI. If hyperthyroid symptoms are suspected, he also suggests having a TSI run.

While it’s unfortunate that doctors won’t run these tests to assess a patient’s thyroid function, it’s not uncommon. Thankfully, we can order them online through The Lab Stop and take control of our well-being.
