Are Cute High Heels Really Worth It?

Most women love heals, and it’s not surprising why. They make your legs look lovely. Your legs look longer, more svelte and even more muscular when you’re wearing heels. On the other hand, we all know very well that they’re not comfortable at all.

Why heels may be bad for you

First, your bones may be damaged in your feet when you wear heels. Most people don’t know this, but one fourth of the bones in your body are in your feet. If they are stressed and pushed together because of ill-fitting shoes, this could cause serious foot problems for you down the line.

Second, some women who have worn constricting high heels for long periods of time have actually shortened the length of their Achilles tendons. This is because of the odd angle that high heels put your Achilles tendons into when you wear high heels. Shortened Achilles tendons can contribute to shin splints, plantar fasciitis and tendinitis.

Next, you can actually get the nerve damage from wearing ill-fitting high heels for an extended period of time. This happens when high heels are worn too tightly and when they eventually cut off the nerve stimulation in certain areas of your feet and trigger pain and numbness in your toes.

Finally, inflammation may be caused by wearing high heels that are too tight or restricting.

How to choose comfortable heels

Even though heels may be slightly detrimental to your posture and joints, there are some occasions when you might want to wear them anyway. In this case, it’s simply a good idea to purchase high heels that are actually comfortable and will do the least amount of damage to your joints and feet.

In order to choose high heels that are comfortable and won’t make your feet hurt, look for heels that have adequate cushioning in this sole. Likewise, make sure that the heels are big enough for your feet. And finally, always try the heels on before making your final purchase. If you notice even the slightest discomfort, don’t buy them. This discomfort will only get worse as you wear the heels.
